Summary: A religiously devout and warlike theocracy blessed with fertile farmland. Despite being far inland, Corvalla enjoys an ample amount of rain carried from the Gulf of Hakimia that drops on the sprawling church-owned farms before it can summit the windward slopes of the Blackstone Mountains.
This kingdom has been shaped by a thousand years of war with the orc and ogre tribes that spill down from the east. Every generation another crusade is mounted to dislodge the orcs from the mountains or invade deep into the Hordelands with the intent of destroying the orc threat once and for all. Thus far, after a dozen crusades, the armies of Corvalla have yet to achieve success.
Capital: Darnovia
Notable locations: Athena’s Crown (the network of castles along the Blackstone Mountains)
Population: 80% human, 12% dwarf, 5% halfling, 3% other
Alignment: Lawful good
Governance: Theocracy. The noble houses, usually relegated to baronies, hold less power than in any other northern kingdom.
Economy: Farming, with many cash crops that include cotton and tobacco. The church owns almost half the land across the country, which is either leased out or farmed by massive community cooperatives.
Law: This is a culture that prizes law and order. Church Courts mete out fines, imprisonment, corporal punishment, and capital punishment as they see fit.
Military: Several dozen crusader castles form a secure perimeter along Covalla’s border with the Blackstone Mountains. Most towns across the breadth of the country are fortified and well-provisioned. The royal army is heavily supplemented by crusader-knights orders and the men-at-arms of the great houses.
Religion: Athena is the patron goddess and all other deities (apart from Zeus) are considered inferior.
